Daviess County Museum with Mom...

I took Mom to visit the Daviess County Museum on Saturday, 7th September - after we came back from the cycle documented in the last post. We enjoyed looking at all the interesting exhibits and learning about the area's history.

The Underground Railroad - a secret network of people helping individuals escape to freedom - ran through Daviess County during the Civil War years.
There was a toy manufacturer, Corcoran Manufacturing Company (Cor-Cor Toys), based in Washington in the early years of the 20th Century.
Waiting to enter the funeral exhibit - which was very interesting.
 Model hearses throughout the ages.
Old gramophone - similar to one of the ones my parents have in Cape Town.

Airport Cycle with Mom...

We did a number of cycle rides during Mom's visit with us, and the first of these was a 22 km loop to the Daviess County Airport. We all rode as a family, with the kiddos on their bike seats and Mom on a bike borrowed from one of our good friends here. We even came across a large yard sale on our way back home. It was a cool, pleasant morning and we had an enjoyable cycle!

White River Valley Antique Show...

After last year's Antique Show was completely rained out, the weather could not have been more perfect this year for the 35th edition of the White River Valley Antique Show. There are carpentry and milling displays, antique tractors, steam engines, old post office and printing shops, horses and farm animals, lots of white elephant/thrift store items, and many other interesting exhibits.

Candace and the kiddos took Mom to this fantastic display of all-things-antiques on Friday, 6th September. I last went two years ago and last blogged about this event five years ago, but was unable to attend this year's event due to work. I am glad that my Mom was able to experience one of the major annual events in the area.

Many people even come from far and wide - and much closer  - to camp at the event and enjoy the weekend's festivities. These photos were snapped by Candace and my Mom and I'm sure they won't mind me using them here. :)

Cave Cricket...

More often found in caves (hence the name), I found this interesting cave cricket hanging out in our crawl space earlier this month.

Apparently, they're quite common in dark, damp places and can live quite happily in the basements and cellars of houses. I'm not sure how happy I am to have them down in our crawl space, though! :)

Steampunk bug...

Well, more correctly, a wheel bug. :) We came across this fascinating insect at the Mexican supermarket near our house a couple of weeks ago. It was taking a walk along the wooden fence post.

Presents from Granny...

Like last April, my Mom unpacked her suitcase on her first day in Indiana this trip. (Wednesday, 4th September.) Riaan, especially, was very excited to help Granny unpack her suitcase - especially since there were a lot of gifts and goodies from our family in Cape Town!

Just moments after we got back home from the airport the night before, Riaan was already sneaking into Granny's room to peak into her suitcase! But nevertheless we made him wait till the next morning since it was already rather late at night. :) We were completely blown away by all the amazing gifts that we received from our Cape Town family. They really blessed this little family so much. Thanks so much, family!

 Relaxing with Granny.
 Breakfast time for Eliza!
He was very excited with his Springbok supporters jersey!
Eliza received a cute unicorn towel!
Handmade dolly for Eliza - made by Granny.
 Fabric for Candace.
 Reading with Riaan.
Mom also brought some of my old Lego for me to pass onto Riaan. :)
Matching Springbok jerseys! :)

Granny Arrives... Again!

We have been blessed this month to host my Mom for her second visit to southern Indiana. Her first visit was last year (April 2018) when Riaan was two-years-old and Eliza was just two months old! Eliza is one-and-a-half and Riaan is three-years-old, so there has been quite a change since then. She arrived on Tuesday, 3rd September, and Riaan and I picked her up at Indianapolis International Airport - as we had done last April.
