MTN Satellite...

The Africa Mercy stays in touch with the outside world thanks to its MTN (Marine Telecommunications Network) satellite. This crucial link allows crew members to access the Internet and make international phone calls. It resembles a large golf or ping pong ball perched forward on Deck 8 - as can be seen in the header above. (The picture under the blog title.) So what better item to use than an actual golf ball and its tee! :-)

MTN logo printed off the Internet.
Mount for the forward crane and satellite in the process of being built.
Mount installed on Deck 8 forward.
Golf ball having been painted and glued to its tee.
Yellow circle added to Deck 8 aft. This is where the helicopter pilot service will drop its pilot onto the deck - an example would be the Port of Durban when we were there in 2010 - 2011.
Back to the marine satellite - now installed on Deck 8.
MTN satellite with the yellow "do not cross" markings underneath.
And there you have it!
