Barely nine hours after landing in Glasgow, my brother-in-law took me to pick up our hire car, which served us extremely well for a couple of days. An hour or so later, driving in convoy with Shirley and the rest of the family, we travelled to beautiful Stirling, where we visited Stirling Castle - just across the valley from the Abbey Craig - the site of the National Wallace Monument.
This castle is absolutely fascinating, with many exhibits chronicling the history of Scotland from the 1200s to modern times. Our children loved the interactive displays that allowed them to learn about history through play and dress-up! After several hours at the castle, we drove the short distance to the Abbey Craig - but I'll save that for the next post. :)
Walking towards the main entrance.
The castle's garden was beautiful.
The girls loved dressing up.

Stirling Castle's Great Hall - built in the 1500s.
The Royal throne.
Great fire place.
Another view of the Great Hall. And a row of cannon guarding the walls.
It was a rather dreary day, but it didn't dampen our time together.
