Travels to Scotland...

Candace and I decided back in April to combine my work trip to Lebanon with a family vacation to see my sister and her family in Scotland. And so early in the morning of Wednesday, 14th June, we drove up to Indianapolis International Airport, where we parked our car in the long-stay parking lot and caught the shuttle to the terminal.

Our early morning flight from Indianapolis to Newark went well, but it did mean that we had a nine-hour wait in Newark before our next flight from Newark to Edinburgh. (The real cost of cheap tickets!) And those nine hours dragged by rather slowly with three little children running around!

Finally, however, we were almost ready to board our flight across the Atlantic to Edinburgh. However, just prior to boarding the ground crew announced that the flight was delayed due to a tyre pressure issue with the front wheels. They promptly had the Boeing 757 up on a jack and were changing both tyres right below our observation window - pictured to the left here. It was fascinating to watch this process. It didn't delay us too much longer, thankfully, and we were soon on our way to Edinburgh!

Our trans-Atlantic flight went smoothly after that initial hiccough, and a short seven hours later we were landing at Edinburgh International Airport in Scotland, having flown over Glasgow (pictured here) as we descended to Edinburgh. The wheels touched down at around 08h40 on a bright and sunny morning. Of course, the time for us was 03h40 in the morning, but the excitement of the day's travels kept us awake. My sister Shirley met us at the airport and we enjoyed a lovely reunion after 18 months. She drove us back to her and Montassir's house in Glasgow, which is absolutely lovely!

Scotland had been on my "Places to Visit" list for quite some time, and I was so thankful for this opportunity to visit with my family! :)

Moody skies above Newark. It stormed several times during our nine-hour wait.

Finally on board and ready to go!
