Lego Table Mountain...

I guess I've been a bit homesick lately, as is evidenced by a Lego creation I built while playing Lego with Riaan. :) It is a rough model of Cape Town's majestic Table Mountain, complete with Devil's Peak to the left and Lion's Head to the right. And, of course, the Upper Cableway Station at the top right of Table Mountain itself! :)

A photo I took of Cape Town's iconic Table Mountain during a helicopter tour back in February 2011.

Pharmacy Butterfly...

My boss recently rescued three Monarch butterfly chrysalises that were located in a rather unsafe environment outside the Pharmacy. He secured them to the inside of a couple of plastic tubs, and soon it was time for one of them to hatch. I took home the chrysalis one weekend so that we could see the new butterfly emerge. While we missed the actual hatching, it was quite spectacular to see the brilliant new Monarch butterfly! It was a very cool real-life biology lesson, and I'm happy to say that all of the Pharmacy butterflies emerged out of their chrysalises and were safely released back into the wild. :)

The chrysalis ready to hatch on the left. One can even see the butterfly wings inside!

Released into the garden outside. :)

Children's Charity 5km Fun Run...

Candace and I helped with this year's Children's Charity 5km Fun Run that took place in Odon on Saturday, 13th October. We both marshalled the event - Candace directed the runners and walkers at an intersection while I cycled in front of the leader. It was a fun event benefitting charity and Riaan enjoyed the run too, from the comfort of his bicycle seat behind me! Here we are leading the front runner on the course.

Wheel Bug...

We came across this unusual bug recently. It is a wheel bug and it was the first time I'd come across this interesting creature. :) This one had, unfortunately, been injured and was missing several legs, so I'm not sure what became of it.

Fall Festival...

We went and helped at Bethel Mennonite's Fall Festival, that was held in the Odon Park, on Saturday, 6th October. The event was open to the whole town and it was a fantastic community event! We browsed at the various stalls and Riaan had a really fun time on the jumping castle. He also enjoyed painting a pumpkin and we had a Polaroid family photo taken to commemorate the day. It was a great afternoon!

There were miniature horses giving carriage rides.

Morning Rainbow...

A rainbow appeared in a cloudy sky as the sun rose one morning. I noticed it as I was getting ready to head off to work. It was a great way to start the day with a reminder of God's promises!

Looking south-west towards the end of the rainbow.

White Mushroom...

I came across this small mushroom one fine Sunday afternoon. And just two days later it had fully-developed into a rather large mushroom. I believe it is the American abrupt-bulbed Lepidella - although I am by no means an expert and may be wrong.

The fully-formed mushroom a couple of days later. :)

Pumpkin Transportation...

It is autumn and pumpkins are everywhere. We often see old retired school buses transporting pumpkins to various markets and farm stalls. It is certainly interesting to see the old school buses filled to the brim with large bright orange pumpkins! :)

Heading on Highway 50 towards Vincennes.

Cycle Awareness...

As a keen cyclist - albeit in hibernation over the past year due to the busyness of life and family - I was extremely pleased to see these bicycle awareness road signs appearing throughout Daviess County. It's great to see local government putting up signs to make cycling a little bit safer on the roads! :)

Sunday Funday...

We spent a relaxing Sunday at home recently. We made a lovely campfire and enjoyed a picnic supper outside. We then went for a short walk and watched the sunset. It was a beautiful day!

 Campfires are lots of fun!
 My beautiful family!
A great day ends with a beautiful sunset! :)
