The pied-billed grebe is a small water fowl common throughout the Americas. However, I hadn't seen one up close until we had a visitor in our pond last month. The pied-billed grebe is rather shy and avoids humans. This little guy was difficult to spot hiding in the grass by the water's edge. Once he saw me he quickly swam across the pond and dived deep into the water. He reappeared on the other side of the pond, and quickly retreated back into the grass. I'm loving all the wildlife and birdlife in Indiana at this time of year!
Spot the little bird.
Graceful neck.
Safely hiding in the shallows.
Turtles sunning themselves on the bank of the lake. Not sure what kind though.
