Southern African Shipyards, the shipyard contracted to repair the Africa Mercy, has also been busy building new tugboats for the SA Port Authority. These tugs have an amazing propeller and rudder mechanism - known as a Voith Schneider Propeller - that uses blades underneath the hull to manouver the vessel. i am a budding marine engineer...and this ivsp is really really nice...m so excited to make a project over it..its just amazing
Those new tugs were built bigger than the current ones with an intended bollard pull of 70T . When tested they pulled over 80T!
