As alluded to in a previous post, things took an unexpected turn on race day on Sunday, 12th March. What would have been the 40th running of the Cape Town Cycle Tour was cancelled early in the morning of the race due to storm-force winds, gusting in excess of 100km/h, blowing around the Cape Peninsula.
It was probably a wise move, but there were still many disappointed cyclists. We had reached the centre of town, from where the Cycle Tour starts, when we got the SMS message that the Cycle Tour was cancelled. Candace and I, although a little disappointed, decided to roll with it and so we enjoyed a lovely extra, unplanned day with family. :) More on that in the next few posts!
